In this competitive era, there is not a single person who hasn’t experienced stress in their life. Even though stress can be controlled and treated, the destruction it does to our bodies and minds are long-lasting and can create resistance in our emotional, financial and family life.

Thus everyone must have a clear concept of how stress impacts the physical and psychological aspects of our body.

The effect stress can have on our body and mind is beyond our grasp. Each one of us faces stress in our unique way. Some take stress with a smile and go with the flow while others get sad and depressed due to a sudden bad occurrence in their life.

Stress is our body’s reaction to any kind of adverse or monumental event that requires attention or work. In simple words, the defense our body does when it senses any sudden danger or shock be it happy or sad is stress. After processing it releases hormones like adrenaline which act as a catalyst and result in sweat, high pulse rate, insomnia, and more.

Let us get to know about the effects of stress on our body and mind so that we can take it seriously and not get ourselves involved in prolonged stress. As it will only destroy us in the long run.

CONSEQUENCES OF STRESS:

Continuous stress results in many bad effects but the following 6 are the main and highly prevalent consequences of stress:

1. Cardiovascular Diseases:

“O my god! Her son just died and we can’t tell to her now. She might suffer a heart attack.” – we probably hear this a lot.

This is exactly what a sudden negative event does to someone’s body by creating tension in their heart’s normal flow. Some other forms of cardiovascular diseases include high blood pressure and stroke.

The above-mentioned instances are a very common scene in this hectic era and both sudden and prolonged stress causes this. While a shock can result in an apparent stroke or heart attack in a person, someone who has been battling depression alone for a long time might die suddenly.

Under these circumstances, his near and dear ones might think how a healthy man died from a stroke.

But alas! Did they know how lonely and tense he was all along? This is how dangerous and a silent killer can stress be.

2. Mental health disorders:

Whenever we feel tensed about any event like marriage or meeting new people we keep on imagining the day until it arrives. That is, we make situations in our mind thinking this might go wrong, I should avoid going there and whatnot.

What this does is create a sense of self-doubt and lowers our self-esteem. This eventually results in anxiety, depression, and even personality crisis. That is, some may go into such deep depression that they might forget who they are and what their character is.

Furthermore, they stop recognizing themselves with others and go into clinical depression. Although it can be treated the timespan while it lasts makes the person thin, sad, grumpy, gloomy, and self-abusive too.

3. Obesity And Low Life Expectancy:

Stress eating is a real thing. Do you feel the urge to eat sugary stuff like ice cream and chocolates when you have a pile of deadlines to meet or when you go through a breakup?

Well then there is nothing to worry about, we all tend to take this simple pleasure when we are sad. But what most of our unconscious mind doesn’t realize is that all those chips and cookies that we eat one after another out of stress contribute to the accumulation of bad fat in our body.

Most people who suffer from depression become obese which adds as a cake in self-pity. Eventually, they stop physical work and find solace in unhealthy foods which lead to a low life expectancy.

4. Sexual Problems:

Although this is something no one wants to talk about it is a major issue that apparently can be the result of extensive stress. Sexual disorders such as loss of sexual desire in both men and women, performance pressure, low rate of pregnancy are also the side effects of stress.

The issue here that our body is completely mingled with our mind. So when any man or woman experiences stress and unhappiness whatever the kind may be their reproductive organs also reduce their functionality.

These may result in divorce, inability to produce a child, hostile marital environment, and even extramarital affairs.

5. Skin Diseases:

When you say, ‘I might become bald! Whenever I touch my hair, a bunch of them fall.’ the most common reply you get is, ‘Oh! Just stop worrying it will be fine again.’

A similar situation is faced when someone gets excessive facial acne. These replies are a fact and not just a common myth.

The more one stresses over any issue the more he/she is likely to suffer from hair loss and acne. While when one stays happy, eats healthy, does exercise, and gets a good amount of sleep then all this acne goes away in addition to the regrowth of hair. But severe cases can lead to complete hair loss and skin scars.

6. Menstrual And Gastrointestinal Issues:

Stress can stop a woman from menstruating naturally for a long time. Some may even get periods 20 days a month. Diseases like uterus malfunction, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome occur which in turn reduces the rate of birth in women.

As well as bad bowel, frequent diarrhea and gastric may result due to sudden and consistent stress.

By thinking of stress as simply a part and parcel of our lives and not treating it we are creating a disastrous future for us. The consequences of stress are thus without any doubt long-lasting and affect our physical, mental, financial, and emotional well-being.

So we must come forward and help ourselves and those who come to us for help while under stress. There is nothing greater than good health.
